The oldest known text of the Oberammergau passion-play, dating from 1662, grew out of the two older plays published in this volume, the "Augsburger passionsspiel" of the 15th century, and Sebastian Wild's "Ein schöne tragedj von dem leyden und sterben...Jesus Christi" 1566.
